HKN Racing

History

In the Spring of 2010, Purdue launched the first EV Grand Prix. Teams had approximately 2 months to get a gokart together and race. HKN fielded a gokart and finished in the middle of the pack.

In 2011, a local supplier agreed to provide us a roll cage at cost, and then failed to deliver. This, along with other complications beyond our control, prevented us from competing in either the Purdue Grand Prix or the race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Team

All members of the gokart build team are HKN members. This year, the team consists of: Daniel Aguiar, Robert Wortman, Eric Villasenor, Prashant Lalwani, Gerald Musyj, Brian Bowman, and Andrew Senetar.

Team photos and members lists are available here.

Gokart Specs

We run a 3-phase brushless DC motor with a controller configured for proportional regenerative braking. In 2010 and 2011, the controller was a stock part, but we are investigating building our own motor controller for 2012.

Sponsorship

If you are interested in sponsoring the team, we are recognizing donors at the following levels:
Level Cost Benefit
Platinum $5000 Banner in the pit area, most prominent location and size on team t-shirts, advertising on all sides of the gokart, and prominent advertising on our trailer for 5 years.
Gold $2000 Prominence on team t-shirts and advertising space on all sides of the gokart for one year.
Silver $1000 Listing on the team t-shirts and advertising space on the gokart for one year.
Bronze $500 Listing on the team t-shirts.

Any sponsor from 2011 will be recognized this year, and may upgrade to a new tier for half the difference between last year's sponsorship and the new sponsorship tier.
